How-to Series: Gingerbread House Decorating

One of our most popular Christmas workshops in our store, has always been the Gingerbread House Decorating class. Parents signed kids up by the dozen, drawing on the tradition and nostalgia of their own childhoods. This year, without the ability to run the workshops for our community, we’ve brought you a fun little inspiration video, to encourage you to do it at home!

Enjoy watching the video and be sure to share it with your friends. Get them inspired, invite them over and start your own traditions at home.

We know everyone loves to outsource and keep the mess at bay, but this activity really isn’t that hard and is so much fun. Our older boys (6 & 10) were kept busy for about an hour as they decorated and would have been longer had they put their own house together as well.

We opted for 1 house and I assembled it, with the ‘baking glue’ that came with the kit. In years gone past, we’ve always made our own royal icing, that hardens like concrete and makes assembling quite easy. The baking glue that came with the kit wasn’t quite so easy but was definitely cleaner, as you squeezed it out of a tube.  If you fancy the recipe for Royal Icing, you can find it here.
